Isla Mujeres: Cancún Convenience and Caribe Charm Imagine swimming in Isla Mujeres’ impossibly blue waters…or taking a spin in that boat.
January 2010 ¡¡Viva Mexico!! Hola Mexico Insider Reader: Just a short ferry ride away from Cancún’s four-lane boulevards and big-hotel style lies an island with wide white-sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and a low-key, intimate lifestyle. Here you’ll find lots of small, family-run hotels and restaurants, and little shops along narrow, cobblestone streets. Outside the urban area near the ferry dock, you’ll find large tracts of still undeveloped land—even beachfront. In these relatively wide-open spaces, it’s hard to believe that you’re so close to Cancún. The island is Isla Mujeres, of course: the Island of Women. On Isla (as the island is commonly called) you’ll find plenty of outdoor entertainment: snorkeling and swimming in those tempting turquoise waters, boating, bicycling around the island (or renting a golf cart—the favored mode of transportation), and more. Real estate on Isla Mujeres is surprisingly affordable. What about a bay view condo for less than $200,000? Or a private beachfront home on a huge lot for just over $500,000? These are just two of the many properties you can find in Isla right now. We tell you all about this magic island—from the real estate on offer to where you can stay while scouting it out—in this month’s issue of Mexico Insider. So if winter has you feeling blue, kick back, relax, and read about this peaceful Caribbean retreat. Who knows...maybe it will have you winging your way to Isla for a little R & R. ¡Felices viajes a todos! Glynna Prentice Editor, Mexico Insider International Living P.S. Next month I’ll be winging my way to Quito, Ecuador, for International Living’s Ultimate Event V on February 24-27.
