Veracruz: Big-City Life, with Beach and a Cuban Backbeat In Veracruz’s zócalo, or main square, life is laid-back—but big-city energy is just minutes away
Hola Mexico Insiders, This month we take you to the city that crashed my diet. But sinfully good food is only one of Veracruz’s many charms. Here, living well is an art—and the reminders of its long history are not solid colonial buildings, but rather the fleeting, cascading notes of a marimba keyboard, the dancing feet of an 80-year-old couple, and the splash of hot milk in a tall glass of espresso. Though one of Mexico’s oldest cities, today’s Veracruz is almost totally modern, with big-city sophistication, great shopping…and miles of beachfront. With its heady mix of modern comforts and traditional charm, no wonder many call it “the New Orleans of Mexico.” Here you can find modern highrise condos that are larger than many houses, with all amenities and to-kill-for ocean views. If salt water (or highrise living) isn’t to your taste, this area is rich in river- and lagoon-front properties, where you can moor a boat at your own private dock and motor down to the sea. Prices are on the rise, but we’ve found you some deals, both in town and on the outskirts. So sit back with a nice cup of coffee (another of Veracruz’s specialties) and enjoy. ììFelices viajes a todos!! Best Regards, Glynna Prentice Editor, Mexico Insider International Living P.S. It’s not too soon to start thinking about joining us for the Live and Invest in Mexico seminar Nov. 6-8, 2008, in Mérida.
